Arrahma Shelter Fez
Refuge Arrahma, near Fez, holds more than 500 cats and dogs and provides care, sterilisation and rehoming: refugearrahma.com. It is a good first contact.
A note on SPANA and the American Fondouk
SPANA has no centre in Fez. Its five Moroccan centres are in Casablanca, Marrakech, Khemisset, Had Ouled Frej and Chemaia. The American Fondouk in Fez is a clinic for working donkeys and mules only; it does not take dogs or cats.
Volunteer networks
A large share of Fez adoptions happen through foster families and neighbourhood pages that place kittens and puppies found on the street. Ask at your vet, who often points you to the active volunteers. Always confirm the animal has been examined before you commit.

What the law requires since 2026
This is new, and it applies to every adoption. Law 19.25 on stray animals, published in Official Bulletin no. 7533, now requires every owner to declare their animal through the national electronic service, to have it permanently carry its identification number, and to keep an up-to-date health record. A change of owner, which an adoption is, must be declared within 24 hours.

What it costs in Fez
The adoption fee is modest, sometimes symbolic. It is mainly the first round of care to budget for:
- Vaccination: 200 to 400 MAD
- Sterilization, if not already done: 500 to 1,500 MAD
- Deworming and parasite treatment: 50 to 150 MAD
- First vet visit: 100 to 200 MAD
