What the law requires since 2026

This is new, and it applies to every adoption. Law 19.25 on stray animals, published in Official Bulletin no. 7533, now requires every owner to declare their animal through the national electronic service, to have it permanently carry its identification number, and to keep an up-to-date health record. A change of owner, which an adoption is, must be declared within 24 hours.

The adoption fee is modest, sometimes symbolic. It is mainly the first round of care to budget for:

• Vaccination: 200 to 400 MAD
• Sterilization, if not already done: 500 to 1,500 MAD
