Adopting a dog or cat in Agadir runs through established shelters, a few associations and volunteer networks, a visit, an adoption contract, and a first trip to the vet. The fee asked is modest, often between 0 and 500 dirhams, and the animal is usually already vaccinated. Here is where to look in the region and how to do it well.
Where to adopt in Agadir
Agadir has several established organizations. These were checked on 15 September 2026 against their own websites or an independent welfare directory:
SARA (Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir)
SARA rescues street animals and provides care, rehabilitation and rehoming, with a trap, neuter, vaccinate and return programme for stray dogs. Its website is saramorocco.com.
Morocco Animal Aid and local associations
Morocco Animal Aid, in the Agadir region, rescues animals and runs sterilisation and adoption, caring for around 150 animals at a time, mostly dogs and cats. Its website is moroccoanimalaid.com. Smaller local associations and foster volunteers also take in animals.
Volunteer networks
Many adoptions happen through foster families and local pages. Ask at your vet, who often points you to the active volunteers. Always confirm the animal has been examined before you commit.

What the law requires since 2026
This is new, and it applies to every adoption. Law 19.25 on stray animals, published in Official Bulletin no. 7533, now requires every owner to declare their animal through the national electronic service, to have it permanently carry its identification number, and to keep an up-to-date health record. A change of owner, which an adoption is, must be declared within 24 hours.

What it costs in Agadir
The adoption fee is modest, sometimes symbolic. It is mainly the first round of care to budget for:
- Vaccination: 200 to 400 MAD
- Sterilization, if not already done: 500 to 1,500 MAD
- Deworming and parasite treatment: 50 to 150 MAD
- First vet visit: 100 to 200 MAD

Agadir's sun: mild but constant
Agadir enjoys a gentler climate than the interior thanks to the ocean breeze, but the sun is present almost year-round. A few useful habits:
- Fresh water at all times and a shaded corner at home.
- Walks early in the morning or late in the day, when the coast is pleasant.
- Watch for hot sand and asphalt during the hottest hours, for the paw pads.
