The Captain
Decides fast, holds the line.
Who you are
You move. You read a situation in seconds, you call it, and you stick to it. What you start, you finish.
You with an animal
Regularity you already have: care, meals, walks, it all holds without effort. The work is elsewhere. Keep three markers to look at every week, appetite, walk and coat. An animal does not say it is unwell, it shows it.
What suits you
An active animal that likes structure and fixed appointments. You will hold an exercise rhythm that most people drop after a month.
Your three traits
Social energy : high
A high score describes someone who talks easily, seeks company and recharges around other people.
Your social life keeps you out, and that is fine. Just plan the company as carefully as the outings: the time your animal spends alone weighs more than your character does.
Attention to others : low
Good news: an animal's health is watched with a routine, not with instinct. Three markers are enough, once a week: appetite, walk, coat.
Organisation : high
A high score describes someone who gets things done right away and likes order.
You deal with things as they come. With an animal that is the decisive advantage: vaccines, parasite treatment, litter, meals, all of it runs on regularity.
What matters most
- The training method. Rewards get what punishment does not: an animal that learns fast and stays relaxed. Harsh methods leave marks long after the session ends.
- Where the animal comes from. A dog from a serious breeder or from someone you know does better than a pet shop dog on almost every measure of behaviour. That choice weighs more than the breed.
- Time and company. A parrot left alone all day pays dearly for it; for a dog or a cat, everything happens at the departure and the return. Plan the company before taking an animal in, not after.
- What you expect of the first weeks. The people who give up expected an instant bond. The bond comes after the work of the first days, not before.
