The Adventurer
Says yes first, plans after.
Who you are
You are the first to say yes and the last to give up. Your energy pulls other people along, and the unexpected does not worry you.
You with an animal
Two things to lock down before taking an animal in, and the rest follows: automatic reminders for care, and company planned for when you are away. The time an animal spends alone weighs more than anything else.
What suits you
A robust, self-sufficient animal that comes along outdoors and copes with changes of plan. Avoid anything needing close daily supervision at fixed hours.
Your three traits
Social energy : high
A high score describes someone who talks easily, seeks company and recharges around other people.
Your social life keeps you out, and that is fine. Just plan the company as carefully as the outings: the time your animal spends alone weighs more than your character does.
Attention to others : low
Good news: an animal's health is watched with a routine, not with instinct. Three markers are enough, once a week: appetite, walk, coat.
Organisation : low
Your system beats your motivation: automatic reminders, doses prepared in advance, the next vet visit scheduled before you leave. Caring for an animal is regularity, not willpower.
What matters most
- The training method. Rewards get what punishment does not: an animal that learns fast and stays relaxed. Harsh methods leave marks long after the session ends.
- Where the animal comes from. A dog from a serious breeder or from someone you know does better than a pet shop dog on almost every measure of behaviour. That choice weighs more than the breed.
- Time and company. A parrot left alone all day pays dearly for it; for a dog or a cat, everything happens at the departure and the return. Plan the company before taking an animal in, not after.
- What you expect of the first weeks. The people who give up expected an instant bond. The bond comes after the work of the first days, not before.
