What feeding a cat or a dog actually costs in Morocco
4,266 products captured on 2026-09-15 across 4 Moroccan retailers. The most useful result is not what a brand costs: it is the gap between the small bag and the large one, at identical brand.
What it shows
At identical brand, the large bag works out roughly 48% cheaper per kilo than the small one. This is not one brand's quirk: the gap appears across 5 brands measured separately, between 44% and 57%.
Concretely, on Royal Canin: 154 MAD per kilo in the small format against 80 MAD in the large one.
The caveat matters as much as the figure: once opened, a bag oxidises and loses palatability within weeks. The saving is only real if the animal finishes it. For a single cat, a very large format can waste more than it saves.
Small bag against large bag, at identical brand
The comparison is made only within a single brand. Comparing every format in a catalogue against every other does not measure format: small bags skew premium and large ones skew economy.

What actually matters when choosing
- Age and condition come before brand. A kitten, a neutered cat and a senior cat do not have the same needs, and that is the most useful thing written on a bag.
- Read the composition before the price. Ingredients are listed by proportion, and a named protein source tells you more than a claim printed on the packaging.
- Change food gradually, over about a week. An abrupt switch mostly causes digestive upset.
- For a health problem, excess weight or a chronic condition, this is a veterinary question and not a brand question. This page does not replace an examination.
Method and limits
- 4,266 advertised products captured on 2026-09-15 across 4 Moroccan retailers. 302 are dry food stating a weight: every per-kilo figure rests on those.
- ADVERTISED prices on one day, not prices paid, and not a census of Moroccan retail. Four retailers is four retailers.
- Format and tier are entangled in a catalogue: small bags skew premium, large ones economy. That is why format is only ever compared at constant brand.
- Wet food is absent: many multipacks state only one pouch's weight without the count, which makes any per-kilo figure wrong.
- We republish no catalogue, no retailer and no product listing: aggregate medians only.
